The most accessible option for everyone is to rent a dinghy boat that does not require a licence. It doesn't matter if you have to choose a smaller boat, the island is not big and you don't need a motorboat to appreciate its wonders.
Our advice is to rent a boat in La Savina, the small village with the main harbour. From here it will be quick and easy to reach Illetas beach, one of the most photographed in the world, and then move on to la playa de S'Alga, on the islet called Espalmador. Here you'll find yourself on a long, white sandy beach that can only be reached by sea and is therefore uncrowded... and you won't want to leave!
Heading south from La Savina you can sail along the coast to the small Cala Saona. Along the coast you will find several sea caves, some of which are partially navigable, and bright blue pools where you can dive in perfect solitude. Don't miss out on the chance of a lifetime and book a little in advance, as there are only a few units available, but don't give up on Formentera boat hire.
If you have a boat licence or a larger budget, you can rent a catamaran or even a yacht. Whether you need a skipper or are able to sail on your own, you will not lack any kind of comfort on board.
There is also the possibility of contracting a catering service, with drinks and food included, so that you can relax to the fullest during your day. Another option is to moor in front of one of the many restaurants that provide take-away service for boats, such as Es Ministre, El Pirata or Juan y Andrea on Illetas beach.
If you rent a large enough boat, apart from being able to discover the whole coast of Formentera, you can also think about going to the neighbouring island of Ibiza. You can easily reach the famous and very popular beaches of Salinas and Cala Jondal, where the well known beach club Blue Marlin is located.
As we said, our advice is not to give up a day at sea, because it is the only way to enjoy the island 100%. There are of course several options, depending on the type of boat, the number of people and especially the seasonality.
To see how much it costs to rent a cheap boat in Formentera, you can calculate in low season from 190€ per day. In August, which is high season, rates start from 240/270€ per day, depending on the model available. These are logically the prices for dinghy boats that do not require a licence.
To rent a sailing boat, catamaran or speedboat, on the other hand, the price range is much wider. They range from a few hundred euros more for a typical local sailboat, called Llaut, to tens of thousands of euros for larger, more luxurious boats.
If you have already decided to rent a boat in Formentera, you can also turn to us for the organisation of the rest of your holiday. On our website Formenteravuela.com you will find a varied and comprehensive catalogue of Formentera flats. We offer both budget accommodation and luxury hotels with Spa and exclusive services.
We also have a partnership with one of the best rent-a-cars on the island, with a wide choice of bikes, mopeds, cars and electric vehicles for hire. Again, there's a choice of small hatchbacks, state-of-the-art off-road vehicles or a minivan suitable for transporting the whole family.
To reach the island, we also offer a complete Ibiza Formentera transfer service, with shuttle bus and fast boat, with of course the possibility of organising a private and exclusive service.
